Kimato hears the words of Thanatos, as well Dimitri...and she feels a pang of guilt.
Dimitri...he will be in trouble. I practically forced him into this. It would have been better if I had swallowed my wounded pride and pretended nothing had ever happened.
Rising to her feet, Kimato looks into Thanatos' impassive face, her face streaked with tears and her eyes expression calm but defiant.
"There is no need for Dimitri to explain himself," she says. Then, lowering her voice to a barely audible murmer, she continues, "The fault lies with me. I should have left matters alone."
You could have all died...and what if we had come sooner? We would have died, too. We would have all been dead, and then who would do our job?

Thanatos nods curtly in Dimitiri's direction as the man finishes speaking, pale lips forming into the traces of a very faint frown as he responds.
"It is most unfortunate that you were unable to fufill your task, assigned in the first place in order to benefit the group as a whole. Through revealing this location and leading Lady Kimato here, it was likely that one or both of you would have suffered irreversible injury. Only because of the change of plan initiated upon arriving at this fortress were you spared; if the plan had proceeded as it was illustrated originally, the task force would have vacated this zone some time ago. The only individuals left would have been several patrols' worth of angered and alerted Syndicate members, which--"
At this Kimato delivers her sudden defense of Dimitri, Thanatos courteously ceasing his own speech until she has had her say. After she concludes her message the android continues as before, not having once actually acknowledged Kimato's words. His tone towards Dimitri, however, is subtly different.
"--would have undoubtedly treated both yourself and your passenger to a fate best described as worst than death. Nevertheless, it is understandable and perhaps forgivable that you gave in to the Lady Kimato's questioning. Humanity has its flaws, and it would be illogical to base judgment of efficiency and effectiveness off of purely one incident. This failure will, however, be remembered..."
It is only after this is said that Thanatos turns from the inventor, now addressing the group as a whole: Kimato, Dimitri, and the rest of Thanatos' original expedition that has been thus far waiting patiently throughout the duration of this heated conversation.
"As stated once before, it is imperative that this area is abandoned immediately and that the caravan once more continue underway. Much folly is accumulated by remaining stationary; there will be ample time for such pleasantries as conversation once travel is resumed."

As Dimitri begins to stalk back up the hill to his motorcycle, he thinks of several horrible things he could do to Thanatos.
"This failure will be remembered." Stupid mechanical git. Given half the chance, I'd turn him into a blender. Or maybe give him a terminal virus. Insulting me just because I decided that, for once, I would try and be honest and natural to another human being. He'll get his yet. Besides, what's he gonna do, tattle on me to Nicholi? Dimitri thinks as a a look of anger spreads across his face like a wildfire.
He turns around quickly to face Kimato's direction, once again wearing a smile, but it obviously is one that takes more effort to muster than his usual one.
"Kimato, do you want to ride back on the bike with me, or do you wanna ride with this happy bunch of people?" Dimitri calls to her as he motions his hand towards the others.

*Whitakker quietly listens to the conversation between the three, slightly amused. After they are finished speaking, Whitakker passes Thanatos on the way back to the vehicle, and murmurs in a matter-of fact tone:*
"I warned you not to leave her behind. Did you really expect her to be ok with it?"
*Whitakker reaches the vehicle, climbs in, and starts it up. Looking at Thanatos, Syrant, and Argis:*
"Are we ready to go now? I don't want to be around when the Mass show up, see that someone hit their target before they did, get pissed, and start chasing us around creation."
*Whitakker pauses, emits a sharp whistle, and from out of the woods near the camp flies Skye, landing in the vehicle with Whitakker.*
"Shall we?"

Kimato fights back angry tears as she walks up the hill.
I should not feel guilty...not for coming here...not for telling off Thanatos...no, the only thing I should feel guilty for is getting Dimitri into trouble. Stupid Thanatos...if it were not for Nicholi Anhelo I would leave this minute, and pray every night that MASS turns that android into a toaster oven.
No you would not, says that pestering little voice in the back of her head. Stop being such a child, you stupid girl. It is not merely for Nicholi that you undertake this journey and will endure Thanatos' obnoxious patronizing. You will do it to avenge your parents, and you will do it in the hopes of finding Kakumei and Kyerie and...
Kimato shuts off her little dialogue before it can finish, but can't quite stop herself from knowing how it ended. Wiping the stubborn tears away impatiently, she shakes her head and tries to subdue her anger.
Perhaps you SHOULD leave these men to their task...what help can you offer them? She shakes her head. She cannot leave now, however much she might wish to. Though she does not know why, she feels committed to this group and their crazy suicide mission. No matter how little help she can actually give. Sighing resignedly, she turns to answer Dimitri. Smiling a genuine smile, half at her own stupidity and half at her friend, she says,
"I think I will ride with you the rest of the way if it is alright, Dimitri. It is a rather long way to walk, and Whitakker's car is making me claustrophobic."

During the whole argument Syrant has been focused on the approaching MASS. It's like he could hear them talking, but could only understand three words.
Hurry...let's go...faster...
After Syrant relizes that the argument is done he prepares to leave. Only Syrant truly knows how close the danger is. The MASS are getting closer and at the rate of their travel they will not only reach this base in a few hours, but will reach the camp in less than a day's time. Since there is no one here to slow them they will continue on. Syrant decides to finally speak up...
"I suggest we go now. We need to get back to camp and head out as soon as possible. THEY have noticed something wrong and are coming."
Syrant awaits the group's decision.

Thanatos nods curtly in Whitakker's direction, head slowly turning towards Syrant as the gunman gives his warning. It takes several seconds for Thanatos to respond, lost within his own lazily sifting thoughts as the rest of the party clambers into the vehicle, waiting.
"The MASS organism will be curious to see why it lost contact with part of itself--this will delay it for a several minutes as it searches the entire immediate area. It is not likely that the MASS will follow us if we remain on the Traderoad; the organism very rarely attacks the large settlements of this more innocent land. As we grow closer to the Ruined City and the Traderoads cease, the danger of MASS will increase substantially. Wait for me."
At this Thanatos moves swiftly towards the now smoldering ruins of the thieves' fortress, pausing at its edge. From the android's faint silhouette, Thanatos appears to withdraw something from his overcoat and throw it into the midst of the blackened rubble. In another moment, he has returned.
"A secondary explosion will occur as the MASS combs the ruins--Aegisite embedded within the detonator will ensure a great deal of its size will be anhilliated."
Thanatos climbs into the transport with the rest of his original expedition, Whitakker manuevering the vehicle to fall into line behind Dimitri's motorbike as the group makes their way back to camp.

Holding onto Dimitri to keep from falling, Kimato allows her thoughts to wander freely as they race back to camp.
This is pointless...there is nothing to keep me here. I could leave right now and no one would care, because I am more of a liability than an asset.
The cold wind stings her face and she squints her eyes against the wind. Nicholi...if I left this endeavor, would you ever forgive me? Would you think me weak, and useless, like the others do? Would you, Dimitri? Sighing, she reaches up with one hand to shield her eyes from the wind and her blowing hair, still holding tight with the other hand to the back of Dimitri's shirt.
I should leave...I should not leave. I must leave...I need to leave...I cannot leave. I should not leave.
Should I leave?
"Should I? I do not know," she whispers, knowing that the wind would drown her voice out and Dimitri would not hear. And perhaps no one heard, not even the pure powers that her mother and father believed so adamantly in...for she gets no answer.
