I disagree strongly with having school uniforms. To be quite frank, it is a stupid idea.
Why do I think it's so stupid, you ask? Because thus far, every great improvement that the school administration has claimed would come from requiring uniforms will never happen. And yes, I can justify that statement.
Myth One: School uniforms will eliminate prejudice, cliques, and status among students. @@@@@Anyone who would make this assumption does not seem to have a clear understanding of human nature. It is the nature of human beings to separate themselves from things or people that they do not agree with or like. It is the nature of human beings to wish to be around those who have similar interests and tastes as themselves. Changing the outer appearance of a student is not going to change the fact that they LIKE black clothes or LIKE things that don't match or LIKE Abercrombie and Fitch. It's not going to change them on the inside, and it's not going to make a difference in who they like or dislike. Likewise, if a teenager is prejudiced against another race or group of people, the fact that the race/group he or she hates dresses like he or she does is not going to make the hatred any less. Is this right? Probably not, but that's the way it is.
Myth Two: School uniforms will be economical for parents. @@@@@We all know this is B.S. No student I can think of is going to want to wear their ugly school uniforms anywhere but school. Therefor, instead of costing parents LESS money, school uniforms will cost parents MORE money, because they will STILL be pestered by students for new clothes. Instead of buying the customary one set of new outfits a year, parents will now be buying TWO sets...one set of school uniforms, and one set of "regular" clothes. And for parents with more than one child in school, this could be a serious problem.
Myth Three: School uniforms won't be ugly or dorky. @@@@@... ..... I shouldn't even have to touch that one. But I will. We have been assured time and time again that school uniforms won't be "dorky". "Don't worry! It's not like we're going to make you wear those little schoolgirl skirts and kneesocks and vests. If anything it'll just be jeans with a solid-colored t-shirt tucked in."
...
Bring on the schoolgirl skirts and kneesocks!
There is nothing more "dorky", unflattering, or singularly uncomfortable than a pair of jeans with a polo shirt or t-shirt tucked in. Hardly ANYONE looks decent in that. Most people find that uncomfortable. And even the least fashion-conscious among us would have to agree that that is HIDEOUS. Not to mention the fact that some students NEVER wear blue jeans. I myself hardly ever wear blue jeans. They're uncomfortable and unflattering on me. I'm much more comfortable and much better looking in a long skirt or a pair of black dress pants. And I'm not the only one. Lots of kids at school have long forsaken the traditional blue jean pants for more comfortable, more sophisticated and original garments.
And we should be allowed to wear them! The way I see it, no one has the right to tell me what I can or cannot wear. If clothes aren't revealing things that should be hidden or promoting drugs, violence, or sex, then students should be allowed the freedom to choose what to wear.
Myth Four: School uniforms will stop students from violating the dress code. @@@@@No...they won't. Think about this...the people who violate the dress code are, in 90% of cases, people who violate ALL the school's codes. They're the kids that don't care about the rules. Often, they are the kids that don't care about their grades or themselves, much less the rules. They're the kids that are constantly bucking authority, and are usually in trouble for something besides just what they're wearing.
If these students don't care about the rules now, do you really think they're going to care about a new dress code or a new uniform policy? The answer is no. The students who violate the dress code now will violate it no matter what, because they don't care. Stricter policies are not "cracking down" on students that are repeat violaters. All these policies do is punish the good students who follow the rules. I am one of those good students. I follow the school's rules, even some I don't agree with...and I don't appreciate being punished because some knuckleheaded girl can't remember to buy skirts with hems longer than her waistline.
Myth Five: Schools everywhere are beginning to adopt school uniforms. @@@@@Either someone isn't doing their research, or someone is lying. Schools everywhere are actually TIRED of uniforms. In the early to mid-90s, school uniforms became popular among elementary schools and highschools. HOwever, since the late 1990s, many of these "uniform schools" have forsaken uniforms. The reasons? They don't work. They cause more disturbance than they're worth. They don't solve anything. They're too expensive. Parents complain. Students complain. They're out of style...the reasons go on and on. And most of those reasons are direct contradictions to the reasons our school has for WANTING the things! Wake up, people! School uniforms are going out! Even Channel One knows that...although the student body at our school probably doesn't, because that episode of Channel One was withheld from our viewing as soon as "they" (meaning the wonderful adults running our school) realized what it was about.
So that is my take on the school uniform issue. I won't go into the whole explanation of why they could be considered unconstitutional, at least not right now.

I'd like to see someone top that diss.
I just frankly don't see the logic in school uniforms. I believe you should wear what you feel comfortable in(within reason...).
The funny thing is that whenever you ask the average anti-uniform student at our school why having uniforms is not good, they'll probably give you the oh-so typical reason, "It takes away your individuality!!!", which I find comical to hear. Because when you think about it, just because a person wears *insert style here*, there are probably fifty other people dressed the exact same way that they are. It's one big oxymoron when you stop and think about it: we scream for individuality, but yet you will see most "cliques"(which are in no way individual) dressed in similar attire, be it all black or Hollister. Ironic, no?

Alright I voted yes because if its like the little miniskirts and knee high stockings I think I might just be able to bear it but other than that I find it very crappy that they want uniforms but if its like school guy uniforms like button ups, blazers, and khakis I am all for it if the girls have to wear the above listed.

As I am sure you all know already, Uniforms would really suck.
the thing I find funny is our school would not be able to enforce for a week. Mainly because our school does not have the resources to keep everyone in line. If our school cannot aford paper clips and Staples, they could not aford the help to keep us in line.
PS: Arlen has a good point though.... ;D

I don't like uniforms. I have to wear a band uniform enough already. I like the clothes I choose, but after all the clever jokes that have been used, I can't think of anything else to say.

Syrant, if the administrastion were to give us anime uniforms, the skirts on girls would be shorter than they currently are. >_< I'm personaly quite comfortable with my jeans, and jacket.

I totally agree and understand, Kimato. I always wear what I feel comfortable in(despite my sis's constant critiques>). I was just going off on a tandem in my last paragraph. You, for one, have a style that no one else I have seen has duplicated. Individuality is not so much what you wear, but it's your own self that makes you individual, when it comes down to it. Have a nice day;D
