These are well written arguments, but I have to disagree with the first one simply out of my skewed brand of logic. I could go on to fight some of the other "anti-myths," but for now, I think it's sufficient just to concentrate on the first one: The elimination of status, cliques, prejudice, etc.
While to a lesser degree I can certainly agree with Kimato's point that our clothing is nothing more than a reflection of our own unique and diverse personalities and in the long run means very little, I would have to point out that it is through physical appearance that individuals are most readily examined and filed away into various stereotypes.
With each and every person wearing the same clothing, it grows much more difficult to make immediate judgments--instead, one must actually grow to know his or her fellow students in order to make even the most adequate of assumptions as to who or who not should be allowed in a specific clique or close-knit group. This could hinder typical stereotyping, and in most cases would be beneficial.
Of course, there is no remedy for colored skin or a less-than-pleasing face. Nevertheless, I believe that required uniforms would help to substantially lessen many social-related problems usually inherent in school life. This still doesn't mean I support them.
Quite the contrary, one of the best parts of the day is seeing the sheer amount of wackiness, craziness, and sheer stupidity hundreds and hundreds of people put into their wardrobes each day. NO BAD.... (EVIL) SPARE

Argis, if you're going to copy someone else's response and use it as your own, at least give them credit. Personally, my opinion on school uniforms is that, in some extreme cases, they are needed. However, in our school, the only reason uniforms are being considered is because the administration doesn't enforce their dress code at all. I see upwards of twenty to fifty girls everyday with skirts that barely cover their rears, and at least a hundred guys with pants down to their knees. The administration has no right to try to create stricter rules when they don't enforce the ones they already have. Just my two cents.

Oh, yeah, it's racist to imply that just because someone uses a word like 'diss', then they're trying to act black, as if a dark skin is the requirement for use of that word. That's retarded. Words are words, and skin color has nothing to do with it. Same with music. I don't care if an African American sings opera and a white person raps and an Indian person does polka... it's up to the individual. So don't stereotype.

School uni's will never be accepted by the entire student body. So therefore, if the administration gave us uniforms, students, parents, and just about any other lifeform with a brain would complain at our school. And eventually, the administration would get tired of it ;D
